Unmasked
Her
fried hair was jagged under the black hat; the evidence of scorching torture.
“Almost
ready?” her brother called, “Mother wanted perfection. Everything needs to be
looked over.”
She
looked at her natural rugged reflection on the polished gold; bleached white teeth
the only remaining falsehoods. She would leave the pageant trophies on the
grave.
How
Do I Go On
He
watched her in the final moments. She screamed and squeezed his hand. Her face
contorted like he had never seen.
“It
will be alright” he whispered, trying not to be sick. His love locked eyes and
he knew it was over.
“It’s
a girl Mr. Barghton. Congratulations.”
She
smiled, motioning for the baby.
